Kenya’s tourism and journey trade achieved a historic milestone on fifteenth November 2024, as AirAsia X (AAX), Southeast Asia’s main low-cost provider, launched its first direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi. Flight D7 101, carrying over 270 passengers, obtained a heat reception at Jomo Kenyatta Worldwide Airport (JKIA) from an enthusiastic delegation led by Hon. Rebecca Miano, Cupboard Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, alongside officers from the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

The brand new direct route hyperlinks Nairobi to Kuala Lumpur, opening alternatives for cultural trade and tourism development. Kenyan vacationers now have seamless entry to Malaysia and the broader ASEAN area, whereas Malaysian guests can discover East Africa’s numerous cultural and pure points of interest. In 2023, the Asia-Pacific area contributed over 320,000 guests to Kenya, with Malaysia rising as a key development market. This new connection is ready to spice up accessibility and drive inbound journey from the area.

On the official launch social gathering on Saturday, AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail shared his enthusiasm:
“This can be a momentous event for AirAsia X as we launch our first African vacation spot. Nairobi represents a gateway to the colourful East African area, and we’re thrilled to attach our passengers with reasonably priced and handy journey choices.”

This milestone underscores Kenya’s strategic efforts to place itself as a premier vacation spot past its famend safari experiences. Hon. Rebecca Miano emphasised this sentiment on the airport reception:
“Kenya is now firmly established as a worldwide connector for vacationers and buyers alike. This partnership with AirAsia X goes past tourism—it displays rising confidence in Kenya’s infrastructure, hospitality, and its pivotal position in fostering worldwide cooperation.”

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s vibrant capital, is a dynamic metropolis the place modernity meets custom, identified for its iconic skylines, an array of native cuisines and cultural experiences. Its worldwide airport, KLIA, was not too long ago ranked because the second most linked airport on this planet after London Heathrow by the 2024 OAG Megahubs Index. AAX and different AirAsia Group airways function 43% of all flights at KLIA and account for 74% of the airport’s complete low-cost provider (LCC) capability.

As Nairobi celebrates the arrival of AirAsia X, this new connection marks the daybreak of a transformative period for Kenya’s tourism sector, unlocking new prospects for commerce, journey, and cultural collaboration.
